Well, last night, the wife called me at work (the gym) and told me she was finally coming in to work out Very Happy . So, she brought the kids (they watched a movie in the day care center) and she put on her headphones and went to town on the crosstrainer.
She looked like she was doing a good, safe pace for her size and she really worked herself. Afterwards, i told her to make sure that she drank at least a liter of water before she went to bed and i gave her a myoplex bar to eat so that she could have some protein in her system to aid in recovery.
Low and behold, she work me up at 3:00 am crying that her legs were so sore that she could hardly walk to the bathroom and if i would go downstairs and get her some tylenol Crying or Very sad
She's back to sleeping now, and then i think i'll make her a protein shake at breakfast and then tell her to take a hot, soaking bath.
Now the only problem is, like many people, i'm hoping she doesn't decide to quit because of the initial pain. However, i can't push her, or she'll never go in again Sad

Had your wife ever worked out before?

I've had pretty stiff muscles before, but not bad enough that I cried or needed to take tylenol for...that's pretty bad! Sad

Hope she don't quit....just take it a little easier when she works out for now. She'll can work her way up to a faster pace and will be happy with her progress--for sure!! Her progress will probably even motivate her! Smile

Hey Longhaul, have her know that we'd love for her to join the forum! I know, she probably reads through you, as I used to do with Derek, but it would be much better for her to join...ask her own questions and let us guys/gals inspire and motivate her! Smile (just a thought.)

That's too bad about your wife. I wonder too if she's ever worked out before....how did she work out for. In any case, she should obviously fully recover until she decides to go the gym again.

That really sucks that your wife is in so much pain. Ive never experienced pain like that from working out. Likely she did just take it too hard....can't think of what else it could be. You'll have to give us an update on how she is doing. Hopefully the pain goes away soon and she doesn't lose her drive to get fit.

Just tell her that her muscles aren't used to it (if they aren't) and that in a short amount of time there won't be any pain.

It will get better and next time she can just take it easier. It must have been pretty bad if she was crying...

Thanks for all the well wishes guys (and gals). Actually, after sleeping a few more hours and she got up, she determined that it wasn't really her legs that were sore due to working out, it turns out that she has a case of gout.
Unfortunately a sad and very painful case of it, but, at the same time, she did say she's still looking forward to getting back to the gym. And yes, she used to work out very regularly, life has just got into the way, plus the first year of marriage, along with the stresses of being a new mom and my being over the road.
I haven't mentioned going to the gym for her in quite some time, so it seems letting her make the decision herself is paying off. I think it's also the fact that she gets a free membership at my gym as long as i'm an employee there.

Gout can be very painful!! (Never had it myself, but know people who has had it.) Hope she's feeling better soon!!

Good to hear that she has the motivation to get back into the gym after being out of there for a while!! Smile Wishing her well and hoping to see her around the boards sometime!! Wink
