how much does height influence strength ?
i want to start powerlifting but i'm kinda short (only 5'9) . do i even have a chance ?  |

| Of course you can start power lifting at 5'9. 5'9 really isn't that short, in my opinion, but even if it was, no matter what your height, you can make many advancements in power lifting. Welcome and good luck. |

One's frame may create some limitations for strength but as Almasy already said, I don't think 5'9 is very short for a guy. I think you'll find that a lot of guys here aren't taller than 5'9. In fact, I think 5'9 is average. _________________ Love many, trust few, do harm to none - Yau man |

I'm 5' 8-1/2" and can squat 560 lbs....

Larger creatures tend to have less relative strength (strength:weight ratio) all other factors being equal, but more overall strength, but in pressing ability and in pure poundage they can exert on the outside world. _________________ -Tyciol |

| People with long arms and legs typically have a harder time lifting weights comparable to someone shorter, because the weight has to move through a longer range of motion. I'm 5'10", and I have long arms and legs. I have a harder time lifting than my 5'5" friend up the road who has shorter limbs than me. |
