It was after Big Eddy replied to my first few posts that I realized I really didn't know squat about the food I was ingesting every day. Since then, and after reading a few posts on this great forum, I've come to realize how important it is to know what the heck I'm swallowing on a daily basis. Sounds like a no brainer right?
Well I've questioned friends and guys I work out and train with, and I can see now that I'm not the only one, that in fact guys like Big Eddy and other well versed bodybuilders are of a minority. Most of us regular folks haven't got a clue what we're tossing down the old gullet.
I've changed my ways, and now research and read up on all the foods I eat on a regular basis, and what I've found is downright alarming. How much crap have I been stuffing in my belly over the years? I don't even want to think about it! Suffice it to say I've developed a new interest in the subject, which brings me to the subject of this post, sugars...
I've been eating protein powder at the rate of 2 lbs a week for about 6 weeks now, combined with the 'Universal Animal Pump' matrix, and have seen good results, but I decided to check the ingredients on the net.
The powder I use is Allmax's 'Isoflex', which boasts of 90% pure protein. However, this mix contains sucralose as a sweetener. Now I already knew that aspertame was poison, but I believed that splenda was ok... Not so according to the latest data.
For those of you that are concerned about the effects of sucralose, you should check out the following links:

Many people are simply too lazy to care. I've worked with guys that eat lunch at burger joints 5 days a week! Why aren't they making a lunch at home? Too lazy! It's easier to fork out the 5 or 6 bucks for a Big Mac combo than to take the time to prepare a healthy sandwich, with fruits and veggies and a bottle of water...
I did it for a long time too, simply because I was ignorant of the facts! |

I have learned that no matter if we are looking to gain mass or lose fat, that diet is crutial.
Diet is about where 90% of our gains come from....training is secondary
Without a good eating pattern in place, I found that training just cannot do it alone.
btw, wannabe, what's your diet look like? _________________ Discipline is the bridge between goals & accomplishments. |

Hello Newfiechick! By the way, I think it's worth mentioning that I've met many 'Newfies' in Etobicoke, the west end of Toronto, and I have to tell you that they are some of the best people I've met anywhere!
As for my diet, I start the day with a brew of milk, stawberries, a banana, wheat germ and two scoops of protein powder, all tossed into my trusty blender. I swallow six ' GREENS ' capsules with my shake, and prepare a couple of 12 oz containers of protein powder ( 1 scoop in each ) for the 'in between' times of the day. Lunch consists of the night before's leftovers, usually a piece of chicken or a pork chop or some pasta, and of course fruits, as they are vital to our health. I only wish I'd become a reborn eater sooner but hey, it's never too late.Supper consists of a variety of meals like more chicken or fish or pork or steak and something green, like green beans, spinach, broccoli or peas. Neither my son or I can say that we 'enjoy' the taste of the greens, so we cheat a bit and use butter as an incentive to eat the nasty green stuff.
I also swallow six more 'GREENS' capsules with a glass of milk.
Night time is a challenge. When we're all together watching a movie or other program, we all like to munch on something, and to avoid spoiling the effort of a good diet, I buy almonds ( unsalted) and plain popcorn. On Saturday nights I let my son ( he's 9 ) indulge with a chocolate bar of his choice. I can tell you I've noticed an incredible difference in his behavior at home and at school since cutting sugar out of his diet. The transformation has had a great impact on his abilities as well. His marks are up and two weeks ago he took 2nd place in a provincial karate sparring tournament. I never realized how important it is to control sugar intake before, but the evidence is overwhelming that excessive sugar is the enemy of our bodies.
How 'bout you? What does your diet consist of? |
