It's been a while since I've posted so I'm just posting an update on how I am doing. Around the first of January I was at my heaviest at 306 pounds. Finally I've got myself on a good track to healthiness though, I've been working 7-9 hour days with my uncle splitting wood, and delivering it. The for the first week I was some sore Laughing It's hard work, but this week I haven't been getting sore at all. Before I started doing this, I was already cutting down on bad foods and had lost 8 pounds. Now after being more active, I would guess I've lost at least 10 more pounds, but I haven't weighed myself yet to be sure. But I'm feeling more energetic now,
my clothes are getting baggier, and I'm more happy overall.

I'm going to keep at it, and eventually start lifting weights again, in a couple months I hope to post a before (the contest photo) and during pic.

Great job man. And believe me, i know how hard manual labor can be having delivered ceramic tile and hardwood flooring for two years to construction sites Sad and then STILL finding the energy to train.
Not sure what's going on with the contest anymore or if it's even still on due to the boards here being so dead. I haven't even seen any of the moderators here.
But keep up the good work !

Talking about muscles coming out,..i love working my traps and so i'm trying to make my neck obsolete lol. My gym has one of those Hammer Strength neck machines that can work your neck muscles from all 4 angles. I load it up with 3 45# plates. Let me tell you, i did that 2 days ago and my neck and traps are STILL hurting ! Laughing

I had been doing them with the free weight, but then i switched to the smith machine and have been able to use a good deal more weight with much better control. Then i move onto dumbell shrugs and then onto the hammer strength machine for both front and rear. Then the rear pec ded for the final pump and then the neck machine for the capper.

Planning on increasing my exercise next week. This week, since it's march break, one of my brother's and I are going to cut and deliver 8 chord of wood, which will be full time + overtime for this week. But at the end of the week we should have $500-600 each, so I can't complain.

Next week since he will be in school again, we will start work at 3:30 and go until around 6 or 7, so in the mornings, I'm going to start walking some, or maybe jog 2 telephone poles, walk 2, and work my way up until I can keep jogging. Also, next week I am going to do pushups/abs every other night, and start lifting weights. The style of weight lifting, I am going to ask for advice with;

I was reading about training for more speed. It said to lift the weight as quickly as possible, and do slow controlled negatives. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me anything else about this type of training?

Hey there mecalder, i wish i could help you out with your training, but it's pretty long and drawn out and i'm just running out the door for errands. But what you describe is accurate and there is a strength coach at my gym that trains a client in the morning and i watch their workouts for the same thing. I'm sure you could find more about this on the net or in the library.

As for myself, i'm going to be at an orientation for a trucking company over the next few day starting tomorrow. If i pass everything and get cleared, i'll be back on the road up to 4 days a week, so i'm trying to think of radically changing my training to suit the job. Didn't really want OTR ,but i've been out of work for over 4 months now and the wife and i decided that i had to take what i could get for now to pay the bills Sad
