I love protein bars. I know some people can't stand them, but I can't get enough. Recently I was at the gym and this guy told me that he didn't think they were very good, and that he doesn't eat them. Is this true?! What could be wrong with protein bars? I mean, I thought I was doing my body a service. Crying or Very sad

Alright, here is the deal, protein bars are fine for you. Provided they aren't all "candy" style, what I mean by this is that infact, protein bars that are good for you can taste good. But you have to make sure that they are actually doing good for your body and not just for your tastebuds Smile. Just look over the ingrediants, it'll tell you whether or not it'll be wasteful.

Thought I'd drop in before I hit the hay and elaborate on Jen's post.

The simple anwser is: go for a shake if possible. Shakes that are blended by you (provided you know what you are doing) are usually better then a manufactured protein bar. It usually comes down to these next key points:

1. Most bars, if they are high in sugar, use high fructose corn syrup which is bad for you.
2. Bars cost more then shakes per serving.
3. Some people just get tired of shakes, easiest way to deal with it is, suck it up.

I mean it's cheaper and usually better for you! Isn't that what you are looking for?

Protein bars can be good for you. BUT you should read label so that you are aware of what you're ingesting. These bars often contain sugars, so be careful.

Your best bet is to go with some sort of protein shake. Its normally the easiest and best way to get a lot of protein. Wink

Whoa Surprised I can't believe you'd rather have bars over the shakes. The shakes actually taste good and go down easy. The bars seem like too much work for me.
Oh well, just one man's opinion.

Yeah, usually people prefer protein shakes over bars, but everyone is different. Smile

Yuck, I really don't like protein bars. Mad Maybe though I've just tried the wrong kinds. To me they are always tasteless.

Can't say I've ever tried a protein shake though.

You should try a protein shake. If you make them right they can taste so good, and the best part is the protein that you can get from them. Wink

Being a girl I'm not really looking to bulk up so I've never been into getting lots of protein because I've always assumed that it helped people build huge muscles. I definitely don't want huge muscles.

Although I really don't eat much meat, so could I take protein to make up for the lack of meat in my diet?
